We count the scars and the smiles as we stand at the threshold of a new year. This poem is a reflection, leaving the regret in the shadows and stepping into 2026 with a promise of God’s renewal.
As the curtains draw to a close,
I am left counting the scars and the smiles.
2025 was a year of high mountains,
Where my laughter crossed miles,
Where moments were golden, and I thought it would never fade.
But it was also filled with the valleys, Where my nights felt endless, And silence pressed hard against my chest. Where my pillows were soaked with tears, And the world felt too heavy to hold, And my heart felt too fragile to beat.
Throughout the year, I have carried both the feather and the stone.
I have known of the joy that comes in the morning,
And of the crushing weight of the dark.
But as the clock winds down and we approach a new season,
I look back and realize that I was not buried,
I was being planted.
So as I stand at the door of 2026,
I stand not with fear, but with a renewed determination.
I am leaving my “I wish” and regrets in the shadows,
And holding all the lessons close to my heart. For I know who holds the pen for this next chapter.
So, I step forward with a spirit ready to receive,
Believing in the promise that follows the storm.
That the God of all grace, who called me here,
Will not leave me standing and trembling.
He will uplift my weary head,
He will strengthen my tired hands and heart,
He will perfect what was broken,
And above all, He will settle my feet on solid ground.
Here is to new beginnings Here is to a new year of blessings and abundance beyond the eyes can see!
