I have always wanted to be free<\/span><\/p>

A life where I get to choose who I want to be<\/span><\/p>

No what ifs, ands, or buts<\/span><\/p>

Just me, myself, and a lot of luck<\/span><\/p>

But sadly, reality is not so<\/span><\/p>

I am burdened by responsibilities\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

My motivation is so low<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s not simply a burden forced upon me<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

But instead, a cross that I know I have to carry<\/span><\/p>

So my younger siblings can be free<\/span><\/p>

There are many times I have wondered<\/span><\/p>

What it would be like to live a life untethered\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

By the responsibilities of being the eldest<\/span><\/p>

And the one who should be a role model<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

It\u2019s not like I hate the responsibility\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

No, it is a gift that comes with purpose<\/span><\/p>

One adorned with the crown of being first<\/span><\/p>

In authority, in gifts, and sometimes in love<\/span><\/p>

But how much of myself must I give<\/span><\/p>

Before I can get some time to breathe?<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Do I have to sacrifice my teens, youth, and adulthood?<\/span><\/p>

Only to look up and wonder where the time has gone?<\/span><\/p>

Am I to go from graduation to work to marriage?<\/span><\/p>

Without first finding out the things I would like to manage?<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

When can I put my cross down<\/span><\/p>

Feel the breeze seep through my hair, clothes, and soul<\/span><\/p>

When do I get to pursue the dainty ideas I have nursed since I was young?<\/span><\/p>

And when can I finally be free to step into the sun?<\/span><\/p>

I love my responsibility, yes, I really do<\/span><\/p>

But sometimes it can get really heavy, too<\/span><\/p>

I could share my woes, but I would feel like a bother<\/span><\/p>

I guess this is just one of the responsibilities of being the eldest daughter<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Some of us are born into a role before we even know our own names.
\nWe become the steady hands, the watchful eyes, the first to lead and the last to rest.
\nAnd while that role can be a crown, it can also be a cross.<\/p>\n
